A Realistic Towel Has GTA Online Players Convinced That The Mansions Update Has Ported Over Content From GTA 6

GTA Online players are convinced that Rockstar has back-ported some features and content from Grand Theft Auto 6, including an oddly detailed towel that appears in a single cutscene.

Considering how long Rockstar has been working on GTA 6, it’s a bit of a wonder that it still has time to make so much new content for GTA Online. While the massive amount of money that it still brings in is surely a big part of the reason, that effort is helped by some of the back-porting that Rockstar has been doing while it works on the next big game.

For some time now, fans have noticed that certain elements from GTA 6’s trailers and screenshots have been ported to GTA Online. From cars like the Gauntlet Interceptor (that appeared in the first GTA 6 trailer) to the necklace that Cal is wearing, there’s plenty of evidence that GTA Online is a bit of a testing ground for GTA 6’s assets and features. Well, that apparently extends to towels now, too.

GTA Online Appears To Have Even More Content From GTA 6

It’s Not Just The Towel, Either

Earlier this week, GTA Online received one of the biggest updates it’s had in some time, letting players spend a ridiculous amount of money on mansions and get the chance to reunite with Michael de Santa. The update also seems to have brought along some suspicious elements that look like they’re from GTA 6.

The entire release calendar moves every time GTA 6 does, so how will the latest delay impact everything else?

Which brings us to the towel. In the cutscene where you meet Michael, Mr Faber is seen wearing a towel in your house, which is noticeably more detailed than it has any right to be. As pointed out by GTAVI_Countdown on Twitter, that’s because the towel appears to be the same one that’s seen in a quick shot from GTA 6’s second trailer.

It’s an interesting observation that would suggest Rockstar is using its resources from GTA 6 and making life a bit easier on itself in the process. The towel looks very similar to the one in the GTA 6 trailer and, while it is literally just a towel, its specific shape is noticeable to anyone who’s watched the GTA 6 trailer enough times.

It’s me, I’ve watched the GTA 6 trailer enough times.

It’s not just the towel, though. GTAVI_Countdown also pointed out that the addition of gyms and the ability to work out in GTA Online could very well be back-ported from GTA 6 as well, along with the self-driving cars that are new to the update. While that theory has a little less grounding since San Andreas did it first, it would make some sense since we’ve seen Jason work out in the GTA 6 trailers and the mechanics are likely all there.
