Cooper Flagg Breaks LeBron James Record, Joins Kobe List as Mavs Rookie Makes History

Welcome to the history books, Cooper Flagg.

Entering Monday’s NBA slate, LeBron James held the single-game scoring record for an 18-year-old with 37 points. However, the Dallas Mavericks rookie surpassed that with a career-high 42 points in a loss to the Utah Jazz:

The No. 1 pick of the 2025 NBA draft was a bright spot for his team in the 140-133 overtime loss. He finished with 42 points, seven rebounds and six assists on 13-of-27 shooting from the field and 15-of-20 shooting from the free-throw line.

Flagg also established his name alongside some impressive company that included more than just the King.

He now has the third-most points in NBA history for someone before their 19th birthday and is behind two legends in James and Kobe Bryant:

Flagg also reached 20 points before halftime arrived against the Jazz, further solidifying himself behind everyone but James in multiple categories:

At this point, the Duke product doesn’t have much longer to add to his 18-year-old accolades. His 19th birthday is Sunday, which gives him two more games to continue racking up the impressive scoring totals.

Dallas hosts the Detroit Pistons on Thursday and travels to face the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday.
