After being snubbed at TGA, Silent Hill f cleans house at The Horror Game Awards

The Horror Game Awards 2025 kicked off last weekend, on Sat. 13, at the Kensington Conference and Events Centre. Hosted by its co-creators Will Penkeyman and Phil Dickens, as well as co-producer Ash Millman, the award show looks to celebrate horror games and the game developers behind them. And one game in particular won big this year: Silent Hill f.

While Silent Hill f didn’t do quite as well at The Game Awards (where it was nominated across four categories, including Best Narrative), it diced and sliced its competitors at The Horror Game Awards.

Konami’s Silent Hill f follows Hinako Shimizu, a high school girl who lives in Ebusigaoka, a fictional Japanese village, in the 1960s. What once was a lively and active mining town has become largely abandoned, and the decadent state of the world is reflected in the protagonist. Even among friends, she is considered an outcast because of her standing in society. However, it’s Hinako who has to deal with the nightmarish events that come calling when a mysterious fog makes its way through Ebusigaoka, changing everything.

Polygon’s review of the game praised Silent Hill f for its art, characters, and story. “It is an absolutely gorgeous game, with stellar art direction and character design, expertly rendered with near-photorealistic (but still dreamy) detail. Konami, developer NeoBards, and writer Ryukishi07 make many bold, stylistic choices.”

We’re not the only ones who love Silent Hill f. NeoBard’s survival horror game from publisher Konami took home four awards altogether at The Horror Game Awards: the Technical Achievement Award, Best Narrative Award, Best Performance Award, and the all-important and highly sought-after Game of the Year Award.

After years of Silent Hill games not quite hitting the mark (Silent Hill HD Collection and Silent Hill Downpour come to mind), the critical success of Silent Hill f has us excited to see what Konami has in store for the franchise in the future.
