Hollow Knight: Silksong sells over 7m copies in three months

Hollow Knight: Silksong has sold over seven million copies in the three months since its release.
Reflecting on the year, Team Cherry clarified that this number does not include the “millions more” players that have experienced the title on Xbox Game Pass.
The developer celebrated the milestone by announcing the game’s “first big expansion” is underway, titled Sea of Sorrow.
The expansion, which will be available for free next year, features new areas, bosses, and tools in a nautical setting.
It also announced Hollow Knight: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, which will launch in 2026.
The update will incorporate higher frame rate modes, higher resolutions, and improved graphics. It will be free for players who purchased the original Switch game.
In the run up to this release, Hollow Knight will receive an update on all current platforms to add features and fix bugs.
“It’s a truly staggering number of players, more than we could have ever expected (enough to crash all of the storefronts!),” said Team Cherry.
“Watching the community grow, seeing the amazing art, the mods, the unexpected strategies, and the support between players through the game’s challenges has been hugely rewarding for us here at home. Your continued enthusiasm remains a massive motivator as we work towards expanding the game even further.”
Silksong’s September 4 release broke numerous records at launch, becoming one of the biggest games of all time by concurrent count according to SteamDB.
The day following its launch, Silksong reached over half a million concurrent players on Steam with a peak of 535,213 players on the platform.
It was the most wishlisted game of 2025 on Steam, appearing on 4.5 million wishlists.
The highly anticipated follow-up to 2017’s Hollow Knight was met with critical and widespread acclaim, receiving a Metacritic score of 90. You can read our critical consensus of Silksong here.
