TV favourite Bob Mortimer has shared an update on four-legged friend Ted, who joins him and Paul Whitehouse on their Gone Fishing show

  • Bob Mortimer has shared a moving update about his canine Gone Fishing co-star Ted, revealing that he is “knocking on a bit”. He opened up on Saturday Kitchen, pretending to be Ted and replying “I’m alright mate” when host Matt Tebbutt asked how the dog was doing.
  • The TV star revealed that Ted – who appears in the hit BBC series along with him and Paul Whitehouse – is now 15. But he added: “He still loves coming out with us, and he seems very happy.”
  • Gone Fishing sees the stars angling at various stunning spot around the country. Ted accompanies them, and in the latest series has been seen riding along in a trolley, which Matt admitted made him feel “quite sad”. However, Bob said Ted only needed to travel that way for longer journeys.
  • Bob, 66, has battled his own health issues in the past, undergoing a triple heart bypass in 2015. Then last year he opened up about suffering from shingles, and having to use a wheelchair while filming his fishing show. He previously shared: “I wasn’t very well and it made it a bit of a struggle but, as always, Paul looked after me and pulled me through.”
  • Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing began in 2018 and has been a huge hit, with a new series airing annually since its inception. Bob and Paul have also produced special Christmas episodes of the show in recent years.
  • The latest series has been a little different, with the stars personally selecting each fishing destination. As the series started, Paul explained that they wanted to visit spots “we’ve either angled at previously or hold significance from our history or carry deep meaning”.
