Macaulay Culkin is 45 years old and (still) can’t drive.
The actor addressed one of the internet’s most persistent questions about him during Wired‘s Autocomplete Interview, confirming that he does not have a driver’s license.
“I’ve never had a driver’s license before in my entire life,” he told the publication. “I originally chalked it up to me being a New Yorker, and that’s kind of what New Yorkers do, and so forth. But I haven’t lived in New York in a long time.”
He continued, “Brenda [Song] and I, we had this agreement. We don’t make New Year’s resolutions ever. And we made a New Year’s resolution: I was gonna get my driver’s license, and she was gonna hire a wedding planner. We’re not married. And yeah, I still don’t drive, so.”
During the video, Culkin also answered other questions, like who he was named after (Lord Thomas Babington McCauley), his role in the upcoming Fallout series, and his past as the prince in The Nutcracker.
The actor also confirmed that his full legal name is now Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin, allowing him to tell people “Macaulay Culkin is my middle name.” Upon looking at his Wikipedia page, per his suggestion, that appears to be true.
This year marks the 35th anniversary of the cult classic, Home Alone, in which he stars as Kevin McCallister. Culkin recently revealed that his and fiancée Song’s sons, 4-year-old Dakota and 3-year-old Carson, aren’t old enough to realize that he played the movie’s main character.
“They have no idea it’s me. They watch Home Alone, and they go, ‘That’s Kevin,’” Culkin told the On Film…With Kevin McCarthy podcast.
“Two days ago, my oldest wanted to see pictures of me and my siblings. And I pulled out an old family photo, and he looks directly at me. And he goes, ‘That kid looks like Kevin. Who’s that?’” Culkin said. “And I said, ‘That’s me.’ And kind of just waiting for the other shoe to drop. He’s like, ‘Oh, anyway.’ And I was like, ‘OK, cool.’ Got to keep up the illusion for as long as possible.”
Culkin plays 10-year-old Kevin in 1990’s Home Alone and the sequel, 1992’s Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
