Not great scenes for Smudge or Australia

Smith had a clearly disappointing chat with his coach and captain, went back into the sheds, re-emerged with his bag packed alongside team security and left the ground.

Superstar batter Steve Smith is set to miss the third Test despite being named in the Australian XI on matchday eve.

Shortly before the coin toss reports came trickling out that he will miss the game, with rumours of a concussion in training.

He was seen talking to coach Andrew McDonald and captain Pat Cummins before play and he threw his head back in apparent disappointment before leaving the field.

He was then seen returning to the field of play with a backpack on, accompanied by team security and apparently leaving the ground.

Usman Khawaja seems the obvious replacement and is out there warming up with the fielders.

McDonald and Cummins were involved in an in-depth conversation with Travis Head shortly after chatting to Khawaja, so I’d imagine that’s where the shuffle in the batting order will be but we’ll get you confirmation when we know for sure.
