Here’s everything you need to know on why Karen Carney won’t win Strictly Come Dancing this year
- Former football star Karen Carney and her professional partner Carlos Gu were favourites to win Strictly Come Dancing this year, although according to the latest odds, that is no longer the case.
- The 38-year-old could now find herself finishing in second place behind YouTube sensation. Karen’s odds of winning are now 11/10, compared to George’s 5/6, according to Betway.
- During the semi-final, the sports star found herself at the top of the leaderboard after impressing the judges with two routines. Karen and Carlos were given a total of 39 points for both of their dances, earning them a total of 78 points. Close behind is Amber Davies with a total combined score of 77, followed by George Clarke with 72 points.
- BBC viewers saw Karen and Carlos highly emotional after their Waltz routine on Saturday night. Speaking to Tess Daly after her performance, Karen admitted: “I just love this guy. I looked into him and I crumbled, and then I saw him go mid-dance.”
- Speaking to Claudia Winkleman after her routine, Karen continued to battle her emotions as she thanked the team behind the scenes. She added: “When I connect with him there’s no better feeling, he made me emotional, saw him kind of wobbling, and then I was going, and I was like this feels so nice and I wanna thank the costume team because they’ve made me feel beautiful.”
- Karen will perform once again on Saturday night to try and win the Glitterball trophy. One star who won’t be there is Balvinder Sopal, who was eliminated on Sunday’s results show. Paying tribute to the EastEnders star, Karen commented: “I am completely in awe of you. You’re a beautiful dancer and have shown the world what fight, grit and determination can achieve; inspiring all of us watching.”
