Under-fire Trump official already clearing out office ahead of leaving administration

The New York Times is reporting that FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino is already clearing out his office ahead of leaving President Donald Trump’s administration.
Bongino had said that he planned to leave his FBI post either this week or next month.
But the Times said that Bongino’s actions show that he could be departing sooner rather than later.
Sources told the Times that Bongino has been sending “office knickknacks and other possessions back to Florida.”
They said that the former Fox News analyst is planning to resume his career as a pro-Trump broadcaster in time for the 2026 midterm elections.
But two sources told Fox News that Bongino will make a decision about his future with the FBI within the next few weeks.
The sources denied reports that Bongino’s office at the FBI is empty. But they said that the deputy’s departure is possible in the near future.
A source familiar with the situation told Fox News Digital that Bongino has not made any decisions about his future.
Bongino and FBI Director Kash Patel have come under fire in recent weeks.
A report from a coalition of active-duty and retired FBI officials said that the bureau was directionless under Patel and Bongino’s leadership.
The two leaders pushed back against the accusation, pointing to wide-ranging reforms that they say have resulted in major gains in FBI accountability and have boosted public safety.
“When the director and I moved forward with these reforms, we expected some noise from the small circle of disgruntled former agents still loyal to the old Comey–Wray model,” Bongino told Fox News at the time, referring to two previous FBI leaders.
