Kitchener Rangers acquire Erie sniper, finish road trip in Sarnia

The Kitchener Rangers are closing out a five-game road trip on Wednesday night with a trip to Sarnia, and are set to introduce a new Blueshirt to the forward line.

The Rangers acquired forward Dylan Edwards on Tuesday in a trade with the Erie Otters, sending former first-round pick Evan Headrick and a fourth-round pick in 2029.

Edwards was the top scorer on a struggling Erie Otters team with 39 points in just 32 games this season, and fills out the Rangers’ last remaining over-ager roster slot.

“We are excited to add Dylan to our group,” said Rangers general manager Mike McKenzie in a press release. “He is a dynamic player and a huge offensive generator. He has shown that he brings his best when the games are on the line in the playoffs and is a big reason we are excited to make this move.”

Headrick struggled to make an impact on the Rangers after an injury-riddled rookie season and just 3 points in 32 games this season.

Edwards is slated to don the number 16 on his jersey, a number last worn by forward Carson Rehkopf.

On the ice, the Rangers will look to grab another win on the road in Sarnia, facing a Sting team who are in top form, having won three games in a row, including a 6-4 victory over Guelph on Sunday.

The Rangers are coming off a shootout win over the Saginaw Spirit on Saturday.

The Sting are in the process of rebuilding and just hired new head coach Mathieu Turcotte in November.

The Rangers will return to The Aud on Friday for a game against the Owen Sound Attack before the holiday break.
