Millions to be smashed by heatwave

Aussies are being warned to brace for a burst of dangerous heat, with multiple states facing severe and extreme heatwave conditions over the coming days.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has issued heatwave warnings across Western Australia, New South Wales, Victoria, and the ACT, with temperatures forecast to surge into the mid to high 30s and climb into the low 40s in some inland areas.
Among the major cities, Sydney is expected to top 30 °C for four consecutive days, while Brisbane will sit in the 30s for the next week.
NSW is expected to be the hardest hit, with severe to extreme heatwave warnings stretching across much of the state, including Sydney, the Illawarra, Riverina, Snowy Mountains, and South Coast.
Inland areas could see temperatures in the low 40s, while overnight temperatures are expected to remain uncomfortably warm, offering little relief.
Fire warnings are already in place across parts of WA, including the Roe, Arthur, Lakes, Stirling, Fitzgerald and Esperance Coast districts, as hot, dry conditions take hold.
Relief is expected to come later this week, with showers and storms forecast to move across NSW, Victoria, and eastern South Australia from Friday into the weekend.
“On Friday, NSW will be the main target of the showers,” Sky News Weather meteorologist Rob Sharpe told NewsWire.
“Eastern South Australia, right across Victoria and NSW, will expect showers and storms coming through, particularly on Sunday.”
Up north in Darwin, a monsoon is set to arrive a week early, bringing wet weather and cooling conditions.
