Somerset Co. Health Department Rolling out Immunization Program

(PRINCESS ANNE, Md) – The Somerset County Health Department is ready to lend a hand to local adults who need immunizations; as they’re rolling out a Maryland program to do just that for those ages 19 years and older.
“Somerset was one of four counties chosen to pilot the program, through the initiative. When it first started. However, other counties, have joined and eventually the state plans to have all counties involved…” says Somerset County Nursing Supervisor, Mindy Hood.
The immunizations will cover a wide range of illnesses from simple flu shots to RSV and Rubella. And accessibility is only one part of the program.
Somerset Nursing Director, Crystal Meadows tells WMDT, “…Also to reduce, significant cost of having to pay for a vaccine out-of-pocket. Also, costs associated with emergency room visits…>
Officials say the initiative won’t just help out adults in Somerset, but also those who either have no insurance or are underinsured.
And getting in touch is simple.
“They don’t have to provide any proof of income or, or insurance or lack thereof. They just have to give us a call and we will go ahead and schedule them to come in,” says Crystal.
The health department is encouraging everyone in Somerset County to take advantage as we head towards peak flu season.
Mindy tells us, “Currently, the respiratory activity is low, which hopefully will give folks a chance to get in and get vaccinated before the peak of the respiratory virus season.”
The Somerset County Health Department is rolling out the program in Deal Island on Friday, December 19th.
