AFL star ‘working through’ marriage breakdown

It appears AFL superstar Lachie Neale’s marriage to wife Jules may be over, amid shock claims from the mother of two that she has “been betrayed in the most unimaginable way”.

Reports surfaced on Thursday the former hairdresser from Perth had been “working through” issues in the pair’s relationship, but those claims were put to bed on Friday afternoon in a sad update.

“I want to make it very clear that I am not ‘working through’ anything,” Jules wrote to social media.

“I have been betrayed in the most unimaginable way.

“All I can do now is try to heal and do what’s best for my children.

“Thank you for the love and support x Jules”.

In recent days, Jules removed her husband almost entirely from her Instagram feed, barring a paid promotion earlier this year in which he appears briefly on a family outing.

She has also unfollowed Lachie on social media, while he continues to follow her and displays several images of their most joyous moments.

A post from a Gold Coast holiday four weeks ago also displays the Lions star around his family and friends, though the pair are not pictured together.

PerthNow reached out to Jules for comment, with a representative saying the matter would be “settled privately”.

Lachie and Jules share four-year-old Piper, and one-year-old Freddie.

Celebrating her son’s first birthday earlier this week, the mother credited Freddie for “holding me up without even knowing it”.

“Turning 1 today 🕊️ This little man, and his beautiful big sister have taught me what real love, courage, and joy look like,” she captioned a carousel of cute images.

“You’re the sweetest soul Freddie bear, thank you for choosing me, for holding me up without even knowing it. I’m so lucky to be your mumma and I love you beyond words x”.

Lachie and Jules have been one of the AFL’s most recognisable couples in recent years, in line with the midfielder’s on-field success and personal accolades.

The 294-gamer began his career at the Dockers before joining Brisbane in 2019, and noted his wife’s influence and sacrifice after winning his first Brownlow medal in 2020.

“My wife Jules, she’s an amazing human being,” Neale said.

“Not many people probably know but she owned a salon in Perth before we decided to move to Brisbane. She had to sell that to come over here and follow my dreams.

“She was doing very well for herself over there but she always puts me ahead of herself when she shouldn’t have to.

“She’s the most selfless person I know and my biggest support, so thank you very much Jules, I love you.”

Neale won his second Brownlow in 2023, and his second premiership medal this year after Brisbane defeated Geelong in the 2025 grand final.
