Travis Head cannot stop scoring centuries. The Australian batting superstar is relishing the opportunity to open in the Ashes, and with his latest century, seems to have locked in the spot for the foreseeable future. Head scored a brilliant hundred on the third day of the third Test against England at the Adelaide Oval, his second of the series. He thus put his team in control of the contest, which England must win to keep their hopes of winning the Ashes alive.
This was Head’s 11th century of a Test career.
He also became part of Australian Test history with the three-figure score, joining an elite club featuring the likes of Don Bradman, Michael Clarke, and Steve Smith. The 31-year-old has become the fifth batter in history to score four successive Test hundreds at an Australian venue.
This is the fourth consecutive occasion in which Head has scored a Test century at the Adelaide Oval and is the third ever Australian to do so.
Hundreds in four consecutive Tests at an Australian venue
- Don Bradman (Australia) at Melbourne (1928-1932)
- Wally Hammond (England) at Sydney (1928-1936)
- Michael Clarke (Australia) at Adelaide (2012-2014)
- Steven Smith (Australia) at Melbourne (2014-2017)
- Travis Head (Australia) at Adelaide (2022-2025)
Promoted to open the innings in the opening match of the Ashes 2025-26 in Perth, Head peeled off a blistering century in challenging batting conditions to lead Australia to an eight-wicket win. He scored 123 off 83 with the help of 16 fours and four sixes.
After three low scores in a row, he bounced back in style with a brilliant hundred.
Australia have a 2-0 lead in the series, having won both the matches by eight wickets each and need to just draw the Adelaide Test to retain the Ashes.
Australia are without Steve Smith for this match, who was ruled out after suffering from vertigo-type symptoms. Smith led the hosts in the opening two matches with Pat Cummins recovering from a back injury.
