Land near to a Cambridgeshire recycling centre has been closed off for three months after “nuisance behaviour”. Cambridgeshire Police has closed off the land at the back of Fenland Recycling Centre in Boleness Road, Wisbech.

A closure order was put in place on Friday (December 12). It will be in place until March 12, 2026.

The action was taken after people were found to be using the land to access the recycling centre and dump items in the overgrowth.

This resulted in two fires within a few months of each other. This included one in July which was close to a house and one in October close to a gas main, which police said could have been life-threatening.

The order prohibits access to everyone at all times with the exception of the landowners, their workers and appointed persons, Fenland District Council, and emergency services in the course of legitimate employment.

Sergeant Lee Lombardo, of Cambridgeshire Police, said: “My team have been working tirelessly to address the issues at the recycling centre following complaints from workers and the local community. We will continue to patrol the area and work with the landowners, partner agencies and the local authority to clear the land and deter those causing the issues.”
