Brisbane Heat completes third-highest successful chase in T20 cricket, overhauls 258-run target in BBL

Brisbane Heat registered the highest successful chase in the Big Bash League (BBL), and the third-highest in T20 cricket, as it overhauled a 258-run target against Perth Scorchers on Friday.
Opener Jack Wildermuth, who hit the winning runs, remained unbeaten on 110 off 54 balls to take his team over the line. Matt Renshaw’s 51-ball 102 was also instrumental in Brisbane Heat’s record chase.
Earlier, Finn Allen and Cooper Connolly, who were recently signed by Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings, respectively, at the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, smashed brisk fifties to help Perth Scorchers put up a mammoth 257 for six in 20 overs.
However, the total wasn’t enough as Brisbane broke the record for the highest successful chase in the tournament, going past Adelaide Strikers’ 230-run chase against Hobart Hurricanes in 2023. This was also Brisbane Heat’s first successful 200-plus chase in the league’s history, with 187 being its previous best.
The chase was also the third-highest in T20 cricket, bettered only by Punjab Kings’ 262 against Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024, and South Africa’s 259-run chase against West Indies in 2023.
