Flash freeze expected today

A sudden shift from rain to snow, combined with plunging temperatures, has prompted Environment Canada to issue a flash freeze warning for this area

Environment Canada has issued a yellow flash freeze warning for this morning.

Temperatures are forecast to fall rapidly this morning. A strong cold front will move through the area today. Winds will become westerly and strengthen as the front passes.

Ponding water, slush, and any falling precipitation will freeze as the temperature drops.

Rain will change over to snow this morning followed by a rapid temperature drop to well below the freezing mark.

Northerly winds gusting 50 to 60 km/h may result in local blowing snow. The combination of snow and blowing snow may result in poor visibility at times.

Roads and walkways may quickly become icy and slippery. Icy surfaces will likely form quickly and could be difficult to detect. Be very careful if walking or driving.

The flash freeze is in effect for:

  • North Bay – Powassan – Mattawa
  • Sudbury
  • Temagami
  • West Nipissing – French River
