Ahead of the release, the actor addressed the backlash surrounding her decision to be part of commercial films such as Housefull 5. In an exclusive interview with Zoom, Chitrangda reacted to the criticism directed at the dramedy, which starred Akshay Kumar alongside Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonam Bajwa, Nargis Fakhri and Soundarya Sharma. The film faced severe backlash for its inappropriate portrayal of female characters, prompting scrutiny of the cast’s choices.

Opening up about being judged, Chitrangda explained that creative fulfillment comes from embracing something new rather than repeating familiar roles. She pointed out that doing the same kind of characters often attracts criticism, but she refuses to let public opinion dictate her professional decisions. She also shared that stepping into spaces she was not traditionally associated with, including special or item songs, brought her genuine joy.

“You feel creatively satisfied while doing something new. Otherwise, the audience is there to critique stereotypical roles. It is easy for them to judge, but I don’t feel dictated. If I did a special song or an item song, I enjoyed doing it. I loved doing that because I never saw myself in that space,” Chitrangda said.

Recalling filmmaker Farah Khan encouraging her to perform a “saucy number,” the actor admitted it initially felt outside her comfort zone. However, she believes transformation is central to an actor’s craft. She said, “I feel as an actor, you just have to transform into that character and that is your job. Obviously, the right kind of people should be there. Be it independent cinema or commercial, with the right people, it will engage the audience.”
