The BBC broadcast the 2024 Christmas special of the popular restoration show, The Repair Shop, on Wednesday evening – and it was full of chaos.

Throughout the touching episode, which subsequently erupted into absolute mayhem, audiences witnessed two enormous fibreglass puffins, donated to a children’s bookshop, arriving through the iconic barn’s entrance.

These feathered figures had welcomed countless generations of youngsters into the bookshop throughout the years and required refurbishment.

The Repair Shop stalwarts Dominic Chinea and Brenton West were assigned the task of breathing fresh life into the puffins, ensuring they could carry on delighting visitors to the bookshop.

Simultaneously, Will Kirk, Steve Fletcher, and Mark Stuckey joined forces to resurrect a magical miniature Christmas village.

After several emotional restorations, the BBC show erupted into pandemonium when a group of excited children, keen to witness the transformed puffins, were invited to participate in a snowball battle with the presenters.

The mayhem commenced when Dominic hurled a snowball directly at Brenton’s head, prompting the children to gasp and burst into laughter, reports the Express.

Amanda Middleditch, recognised as one of the Teddy Bear Ladies, then shouted: “Come on, kids, let’s get them.”

Moments afterwards, the playful youngsters were forming snowballs and pelting Dominic with them whilst he attempted to shield himself behind one of the puffins. However, Amanda clearly had no desire to be embroiled in the chaos and cheekily scarpered back to the safety of the barn.

Her swift exit was captured on camera as the fracas continued. In another part of the episode, Suzie Fletcher restored a donkey’s saddle, a cherished item passed down through four generations of farmers.

The saddle, originally used by its owner since he was seven years old, was ridden into town atop his donkey to deliver gifts and spread joy.

Meanwhile, the 2025 Christmas special of The Repair Shop is set to air on Boxing Day on BBC One at 7.30pm when the barn’s doors are thrown wide open to welcome special guests Helen Mirren, Julia Donaldson and Rob Brydon, who bring in treasured items in need of repair.

The Repair Shop is available for streaming on BBC iPlayer
