Meghan’s shock move to save Netflix deal

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly promised Netflix that they will make a documentary about Princess Diana.
The couple’s infamous Netflix deal, which culminated in numerous documentaries and Meghan’s panned show Meghan, With Love, has earned the pair a pretty penny over the last few years.
However, earlier this year the royal couple announced they signed a “multi-year, first-look deal for film and television projects” with the streamer.
While no amount was released, The Hollywood Reporter said at the time that the deal was “in practice, a downgrade.”

Now, an insider has claimed that the pair bagged their second deal only after promising to make a tell-all documentary about Princess Diana.
“It’s hard to see at this point how and why the relationship endures unless there is something juicy and possibly Diana-shaped being dangled.”
“If there’s something Diana related indeed coming,” the source told Daily Beast. “You could see that as something Netflix would certainly maintain the relationship for, at a price.”
Another industry source told The Sun: “If Harry wants to do it then Netflix will bite his hand off.”
In 2020, Markle and Harry signed a $US100 million, multi-year deal with Netflix, nearly nine months after they stepped down as senior members of the royal family.
News of the Sussexes’ forthcoming film comes nearly five months after Page Six exclusively reported that their deal with Netflix would end this year.

However, the couple’s company, Archewell Productions, agreed to a new first-look deal with the streaming giant — but for far less pay.
It was revealed this week that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will produce an adaptation of The Wedding Date, the first in a six-book series from New York Times best-selling author Jasmine Guillory, according to Deadline.
The Wedding Date, which was published in 2018, follows Alexa Monroe, who agrees to be a fake date for Drew Nichols at his ex’s wedding after they get stuck in an elevator.
There’s currently no word in whether Meghan will star in the project.
The Sussexes are also producing a film adaptation of Carley Fortune’s hit romance novel, Meet Me at the Lake, for Netflix. However, Page Six exclusively reported in July that the film had not yet tapped a director or cast.
Meanwhile, the Suits star’s With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration, which premiered December 3, also didn’t make the streamer’s top 10 list earlier this month.
