The Ashes 2025 third Test LIVE: England to chase 435 to win after Australia bowled out; Head denied double hundred

Our cricket scribes have had their say on whether this match will end today.

I’ll put their views below, please add your vote to our poll.

Daniel Brettig: Yes. There is enough in the pitch in the right areas for Australia’s attack and it is also a much nicer day for bowling. With the extra half an hour for a result, there will be about 75 overs on offer.

Dan Walsh: Yes. For the third Test in a row we’ll have a late session three finish, by unanimous agreement, the absolute worst result for a press box intent on sampling Adelaide’s evening hospitality. England will try and run down this target in 90 overs at most and fall 200-odd short. 435 is, of course, the famous target Ricky Ponting set South Africa in 2006. Australia’s 434 in the first innings was the largest ODI score at the time. It lasted 49.5 overs.

Tom Decent: No. I’ve got a sneaking suspicion this game will go into day five. Today is going to be England’s day. A few things will go their way on a decent pitch and the dream will be on. I still think Australia will hang on to win tomorrow, but the tourists are ready to give them a mighty scare. I’m all for a day four result though!
