“He just gives the attack balance,” Mark Waugh said on Fox Cricket.

“If you wanted to play two spinners, for example, he could be the third seamer, assuming he is fit.”

Crawley and Root have brought up their 50-partnership and they look good. Not unbeatable, but they are going along well.

England are 2-86 with Crawley 26 and Root 28 chasing 435 to win.
