Chicago area traffic: New ramp from SB Tri-State Tollway to County Line Road opening

NORTHLAKE, Ill. (WLS) — There is a new ramp opening Monday on the southbound Tri-State Tollway.
Illinois Tollway officials say this new ramp will ease congestion and help support local economic development.
The new ramp at County Line Road creates access from the southbound Tri-State Tollway to North Avenue.
Chopper 7 flew over the new ramp Monday morning. This new ramp brings drivers directly to an area that is a critical hub for commercial and industrial activity in Northlake, Elmhurst, Franklin Park and Bensenville.
“The area surrounding North Avenue and Lake Street is one of the most important commercial and industrial corridors along the Tri-State Tollway,” Illinois Tollway Executive Director Cassaundra Rouse said. “For years, congestion on the I-290 interchange limited access. From I-294, it created bottlenecks that affected commuters, it affected freight movement and local businesses.
Before, commuters had to take the I-290 – I-88 ramp to make their way into the area, which created a lot of congestion.
This new ramp, plus improvements at the North Avenue Interchange should help improve access to 294, North Avenue and Lake Street.
