Elderly driver rear-ends state patrol SUV on I-90, hurting trooper

An 86-year-old Easton man slammed into the back of a Washington State Patrol (WSP) trooper’s SUV in Kittitas County overnight.
The crash happened in the westbound lanes of Interstate 90 near the Pine Glen area, several miles east of Easton.
According to the WSP, one of the agency’s fully marked SUVs was stopped in one of the westbound lanes with its lights on when the other driver hit the SUV from behind.
One trooper had minor injuries and was taken to a hospital. The other trooper was not in the SUV at the time of the crash.
WSP said the causing driver was unhurt.
The incident is at least the second time a trooper’s SUV has been hit in the last several days.
A WSP sergeant had minor injuries after a head-on crash in Pierce County on Wednesday.
Troopers say a woman driving a pickup crashed into the trooper’s patrol SUV in Lakewood. The sergeant had to be rescued from his SUV. He was taken to the hospital but was expected to be OK.
