Johnny Manziel replaced as College GameDay guest picker. Why?

Texas A&M vs Miami: College football playoff first round preview

Will Texas A&M’s dominant team or their inconsistent side face Miami in the playoff?

ESPN apparently had to change their plans for a “College GameDay” guest picker ahead of Miami vs. Texas A&M in the College Football Playoff.

The popular college football pregame show was broadcasting live from Kyle Field to preview the CFP matchup. As usual, they planned to bring a famous alum from the host school to help make game picks before the game. ESPN had promoted Johnny Manziel, who won the Heisman Trophy at Texas A&M in 2012.

But about an hour before the show was set to make their picks, host Rece Davis teased that Oklahoma City Thunder guard Alex Caruso, who played for the Aggies basketball team in college, would be making the pick instead.

Why the change? Neither ESPN nor Manziel have made a statement about the matter, although the former first-round NFL draft pick was at Miami’s Kaseya Center the previous night, posting several ringside photos from Anthony Joshua’s win over Jake Paul.

There has also been a photo circulating on social media reportedly showing Manziel flashing the U at the boxing match, not exactly the best sign for what was supposed to be a hometown guest picker. The photo was noted with a sign spotted at “College GameDay.”
