Conwy Tunnel A55 remains closed in both directions due to ‘fault’

The closure was put in place early this morning (Monday, October 20) to allow investigations into a fault identified within the tunnel’s safety systems.
Traffic Wales North & Mid issued a statement just after 8.30am confirming the closure and advising that traffic would be diverted.
In an update shortly before 3pm, Traffic Wales confirmed the tunnel had reopened following “emergency investigation and rectifying works” on the safety systems.
They said: “Following emergency investigation and rectifying works on the safety systems today, the Conwy tunnel has now reopened in both directions to all traffic.
“Apologies for the inconvenience caused during this time.
“The tunnel’s safety systems are essential to ensure that we prioritize the safety of the travelling public on our network.
“Thank you for your understanding during this time.”
Short rolling roadblocks are currently in place to allow for the final removal of cones in the area.
