Newcastle United make shock managerial decision ahead of local derby

Newcastle United Women have parted company with manager Becky Langley after six years in charge.

Becky Langley has guided the Newcastle United women’s team from obscurity to the Women’s Super League 2, leading the side to back-to-back promotions after Amanda Staveley made the club a professional outfit and put her faith in the side.

The lasses struggled a bit in the second tier last season, but remained in the division. Things have not been going well for the side so far this season.

The club announced on Monday evening that Becky Langley has left her role as Women’s manager with immediate effect.

Newcastle Women have just one win in the league this season

The lasses finished fifth in the second tier last season but currently occupy ninth spot with just one win in six games.

The news has come as a bit of a shock, given all Langley has done for the women’s team, overseeing the shift to a professional outfit and guiding them up the leagues.

A statement on the official website doesn’t give a whole lot of detail on the decision.

Newcastle face Durham and Sunderland in the next three games

The lasses have two derbies in the coming weeks, with a match against Durham following a tie against Ipswich Town, and then after Durham comes Sunderland.

Hopefully, there will be a new manager in place by then, and the lasses can kickstart their season.

Good luck to Becky with whatever she does next, and thank you for a wild six years.
