Multiple rounds of beneficial rains on the way to Atlantic Canada

This moisture will eventually move toward Newfoundland, possibly even stalling across the province to finish off the week.

Folks across the Maritimes can expect general rainfall totals of 10-20 mm from this midweek system.

The midweek system could stall over southeastern Newfoundland into the day Friday and Saturday, potentially bringing some areas as much as 50 mm of additional rainfall through the beginning of the weekend.

Rainfall deficits piling up across Atlantic Canada

We started October with every portion of the Maritimes in Newfoundland mired in some degree of drought conditions.

How bad is it? This month alone, Halifax has only seen 6 per cent of its average monthly rainfall with just 8.8 mm as of Oct. 18. St. John’s follows with just 31.4 mm in the gauge since the first of the month, which represents 20 per cent of October’s typical rainfall in the city.

While this upcoming rainfall won’t erase the deficits, any little bit helps when the ground is this parched.
