Multiple people rescued from large fire at apartment complex in Fifth Ward

HOUSTON, Texas – The Houston Fire Department is working to determine what caused a large fire at an apartment complex in Fifth Ward on Tuesday morning.

Around 4 a.m., firefighters were called to an apartment complex located in the 5201 block of Market Street near the East Freeway.

Although the fire has now been put out, HFD said three to four people had to be rescued from their apartment, and the fire caused damage to several units.

No injuries were reported, and it’s unclear what started the fire.

Red Cross responded Tuesday, saying they were on site and helping those affected by the fire. It’s not clear how many people have been affected by the fire.
