Power outage affects entire town of Capreol, parts of Hanmer

Greater Sudbury Hydro issued a media release at 10:19 p.m. indicating the entire town of Capreol was without power, while a Hydro One map also noted an outage in parts of Hanmer
Update at 11 p.m.:
Just now, Greater Sudbury Hydro posted online that the cause of the outage was a tree coming down on a hydro line.
Greater Sudbury Hydro is waiting for Hydro One to safely remove the tree before restoration work can continue.
At this time, they don’t have an estimated time of restoration, but would share more information as it becomes available.

Lights are out in Capreol and parts of Hanmer and surrounding areas tonight.
At 10:19 p.m., Greater Sudbury Hydro issued a media release indicating the entire community of Capreol was without power.
“At this time, the cause is unknown,” they wrote. “Our team is investigating, and Hydro One is also looking into the issue.”
They noted that updates would be shared as soon as more information becomes available.
An interactive map issued by Hydro One cited 1,604 customers affected in the Capreol area stretching southwest to Hanmer, that a crew has been dispatched and they estimate power to be restored by 1 a.m.
An additional swath of land to the south and east of Hanmer was also flagged as being without power, affecting 462 customers, which should also be restored by 1 a.m.
No cause has been determined for these outages.
