The Coalition intends to stay committed to net zero emissions but is considering pushing the target date beyond 2050 in the belief it is unachievable without causing considerable economic damage.
The other option under consideration is to keep the 2050 target date but rely much more on technologies such as carbon capture and storage, as well as nuclear, to ensure it can be achieved.
