A London airport has warned passengers about longer security queues following an IT “issue” that occurred earlier this morning. On Monday, October 20, management at London Stansted released a statement on X, previously known as Twitter.
The alert, in full, reads: “Information Update. Due to an earlier IT issue that affected the availability of some security lanes at London Stansted, queue times at security may still be longer than usual. London Stansted apologises for the inconvenience and thanks passengers for their patience.”
Stansted is the UKs fourth busiest airport (following Heathrow, Gatwick, and Manchester), handling hundreds of flights daily and serving millions of travellers annually. It stands as the major London airport with substantial runway capacity and boasts a European route network that remains unmatched across the UK, bringing more European visitors to London than any other airport.
More than 20 airlines operate from London Stansted, connecting more than 40 countries and exceeding 200 destinations globally. It features the highest number of European destinations among UK airports, and ranks second across Europe, behind only Munich.
According to the airport’s website, the leading destinations include Dublin, Rome, Malaga, Barcelona, and Cologne in that order. The primary UK destinations are Edinburgh, Belfast, and Glasgow, whilst Spain emerges as the most favoured country for travellers.
