Indian opener Pratika Rawal became the joint fastest in the world to surpass 1,000 runs in Women’s ODIs on Thursday. The right-hander equalled former Australian cricketer, the late Lindsay Reeler’s record.

She needed 12 runs to reach the 1000-run mark and broke Deepti Sharma’s record (29) to become the fastest Indian to go past the 1000-run mark.

By scoring 18 runs in India’s previous group stage match against England in Indore, she could have reached the milestone in just her 22nd innings, breaking the record set by Reeler, who achieved it in 23 innings 37 years ago on December 18, 1988. However, she got out for only six runs in 14 balls, chasing a short and wide ball, bottom-edging it to the wicketkeeper for a caught behind.

Pratika reached the milestone in just 304 days since her debut on December 22, 2024, making her the fastest ever to achieve it. She broke the previous record held by Laura Wolvaardt, who took 734 days — from February 7, 2016, to February 10, 2018 — to reach the same mark.

Earlier this year, Rawal broke the record held by current England head coach Charlotte Edwards, becoming the fastest to reach 500 runs in Women’s ODIs. Rawal achieved this milestone by scoring 78 runs from 91 balls against South Africa during the second match of a tri-nation series in Sri Lanka. She accomplished it in her eighth innings, surpassing Edwards’ record of nine innings.

India can secure a spot in the semifinals with a victory on Thursday, while the White Ferns will need to wait until the final set of league matches. However, a win against India would be a significant step in that direction.
