Dodgers Announce Alex Vesia is Away From Team Due to ‘Deeply Personal Family Matter’

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced that left-handed pitcher Alex Vesia is away from the team due to “a deeply personal family matter.”
“It’s with a heavy heart that we share that Alex Vesia is away from the team as he and his wife Kayla navigate a deeply personal family matter,” the statement wrote. “The entire Dodgers organization is sending our thoughts to the Vesia family, and we will provide an update at a later date.”
While the most important issue is, of course, regarding Vesia and his family, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts discussed the impact on LA’s World Series roster.

“I think right now we’re in the mode of trying to understand the process, the rules — a way that we can sort of try to navigate the roster. I think we have a little bit of time … to finalize our roster. But yeah, we’re going through the process of trying to backfill his spot on the roster.”
Roberts was unsure if Vesia would be available in the World Series down the line.
“I think we’re just going day to day,” Roberts said, “with really no expectations.”
Vesia has played a crucial role for the Dodgers in the back of their bullpen this postseason, appearing in seven games. After allowing two earned runs in Wild Card Game 1, he’s pitched six consecutive scoreless outings.
