The World Series is yet to begin, but the award season for the 2025 baseball season is already beginning to heat up.
And three Milwaukee Brewers – Brice Turang, William Contreras and Christian Yelich – have been announced as National League finalists for the Louisville Slugger Silver Slugger Award in a vote of NL managers and coaches.
Turang is a finalist at second base along with Ketel Marte of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Nico Hoerner of the Chicago Cubs. He set career highs across the board with a .288 average, 18 home runs, 81 runs batted in and an on-base plus slugging of .794 in a team-high 156 games and in general was one of the Brewers’ most impactful players.
Contreras is a finalist at catcher along with Hunter Goodman of the Colorado Rockies and Will Smith of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Contreras, the NL Silver Slugger winner in 2024, didn’t quite match his numbers from that campaign but still hit .260/17/76/.754 over 150 games despite playing all year with a broken left middle finger.
Yelich is a finalist at designated hitter with Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers and Kyle Schwarber of the Washington Nationals. He had a resurgent 2025 following back surgery and was Milwaukee’s biggest run producer, hitting .264/29/103/.795 in 150 games.
Winners will be announced on Nov. 6.
Brewers claim left-hander off waivers
The Brewers have claimed left-hander Sammy Peralta off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels in their first official postseason transaction of 2025.
Peralta, 27, went 0-1 with a 7.59 earned run average and 1.88 WHIP (walks plus hits per inning pitched) in five appearances out of the bullpen for the Angels this past season.
In 30 major-league relief appearances over three seasons – the first two with the Chicago White Sox, who drafted him in the 18th round in 2019 – Peralta is 2-1 with a 5.12 ERA, WHIP of 1.71 and 37 strikeouts over 45⅔ innings since debuting in 2023.
He has one minor-league option remaining.
According to Louisville Slugger, finalists and winners are determined by a vote of NL managers and coaches who cast ballots for players at each position in their league.
Each NL team receives four votes – the manager and three coaches of the team’s choice. Votes are based on a combination of offensive statistics including OPS, OPS+, homers, RBI, batting average, total bases and runs, as well as the managers’ and coaches’ general impressions of a player’s overall offensive value.
