Quick, Quicker, Quickest: Travis Head Breaks Smith’s All-time Australian ODI Record
Head became the fastest Australian to 3,000 ODI runs, getting there in just 76 innings
Travis Head might be a late bloomer, but he’s ensuring that the last phase of his cricketing career is making all the right noises. The left-hander continued his explosive white-ball form, becoming the fastest Australian to 3,000 ODI runs, surpassing Steve Smith’s record (79 innings).
Head got there during his knock against India in Sydney, on October 25 (Saturday), when he scored 29 off 25, putting on a 61-run opening wicket partnership with Mitchell Marsh. During his short stay at the crease, the left-hander ensured that he punished the Indian bowlers, smashing six boundaries, with 24 of his 29 runs coming in just boundaries.
Not just breaking an all-time Australian record, Head also joined fellow Australian batter Glenn Maxwell and English batters Jason Roy and Jos Buttler in getting to 3,000 runs with the fewest balls possible.
