Dragons’ Den star Sara Davies has described Strictly Come Dancing as “the biggest opportunity” of her life to date. The entrepreneur participated in the 2021 series, performing alongside professional dancer Aljaz Skorjanec.

Despite flourishing during her time on the programme, Sara’s dancing adventure concluded in week eight following a dance-off defeat to Tilly Ramsay – a result that reduced her to tears.

Looking back on her experience four years later, she shared with The Times: “I felt like it was the biggest opportunity of my life, and something purely for me.”

The 41-year-old’s recent remarks follow her previous admission of being “desperate” to appear on the programme.

She previously revealed to The Telegraph: “I was desperate to do that show. Literally, I got myself an agent and I said, ‘My life’s goal is to get on Strictly’.

“And it wasn’t just because I was desperate to dance with a really sexy, hot man.”

During her time on the show, Sara developed a strong friendship with Aljaz, who is currently partnered with RuPaul’s Drag Race star La Voix this series.

The professional dancer supported the businesswoman when she “really struggled” to come to terms with her elimination from the BBC programme.

Sara confessed to “crying uncontrollably” following the judges’ verdict, and likened joining Strictly to entering an “alternative universe”.

The TV personality’s appearance on the show came two years after her debut on Dragons’ Den.

Earlier this year, she announced that she had “taken the decision to step away from the Den for now, to focus on my own business” – a crafting company she launched in 2005.

In an Instagram post, Sara stated: “As a lot of you will know, I’ve taken up my position again as CEO of Crafter’s Companion and my business is my big priority this year.

“And when I commit to a business, I really commit, which is why I find Dragons’ Den such a rewarding role.

“As well as filming an incredible show, being a Dragon requires so much dedication and time behind the scenes as you join the life of each business you invest in.

“It means seeing through your investment and committing to your part in that organisation. It’s so much more than a TV show.

“That’s why I’ve taken the decision to step away from the Den for now, to focus on my own business, which was my first baby!”.

She further confirmed that due to this decision, she “won’t be filming with the year this year for the next series”.

However, Sara won’t be completely stepping away from television, as next year she’ll be a regular contestant on Gary Lineker’s new ITV game show, The Box.

“I am a competitive person, but this is definitely outside my comfort zone,” she added.

Strictly Come Dancing airs tonight at 6.25pm on BBC One.
