It’s an unfortunate update for Leafs legend Alex Mogilny, as news breaks that he will be unable to attend his long-awaited Hockey Hall of Fame induction.

As the Toronto Maple Leafs prepare to face the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday, it’s fitting to reflect on a player who once suited up for both clubs and left an unforgettable mark on the game.

Mogilny Finally Gets the Call to the Hockey Hall of Fame

However, some disappointing news surfaced this week regarding the Russian star. Despite the long-awaited honour, Mogilny will not attend the induction ceremony in person on November 10th.

As per the Hockey Hall of Fame on X:

“Induction Celebration Notice:
Class of 2025 Inductee Alexander Mogilny has confirmed that he is unable to attend the Induction in person. He will be sharing his acceptance speech through a video message that will be aired during the Induction Celebration on Monday, November 10th.”

A Look Back at Mogilny’s Historic Career

Over 990 NHL games, he recorded 473 goals, 559 assists, and 1,032 points, playing for the Buffalo Sabres, Vancouver Canucks, New Jersey Devils, and Toronto Maple Leafs.

Mogilny wore the Maple Leafs crest from 2001 to 2004, and impressively led the team in scoring during the 2002-03 season — no small feat considering he shared the ice with Maple Leafs legend Mats Sundin.

His most legendary season came in 1992-93 with the Sabres, when he scored a remarkable 76 goals in 77 games, nearly a goal per game — one of the most dominant offensive seasons in NHL history.

Although Mogilny won’t be attending the induction ceremony in person, he will deliver a video message during the celebration — a fitting way to honour his trailblazing career.

Fans will also see two former Maple Leafs recognized that night, as Joe Thornton joins Mogilny in the 2025 Hall of Fame class.

The induction ceremony takes place on November 10th and promises to be a special evening celebrating two of hockey’s greats.
