Fans express disappointment, urge patience with Brian Kelly amid LSU’s struggles

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Coming into the season, many LSU fans believed it was playoff or bust.

Now, with the Tigers’ postseason hopes slipping away, frustration and disappointment are starting to set in.

That sentiment was clear at Coach Brian Kelly’s weekly radio show on Thursday, Oct. 23, where several fans voiced their concerns about the team’s performance.

“It’s been a disappointment. You came in with that portal class and thought they were a Top 5 team and a lock for the playoff,” Dean Lauret, a LSU fan, said.

Among the crowd, conversations centered not only on the team’s struggles but also on possible coaching changes.

Some fans said Kelly should get another year to turn things around.

“I think he should get another year, because if he’s let go this year, we’re talking about a $53 million buyout, and I don’t see how you can justify that in our state. I expect some coaching changes, but I’d give him another year,” Lauret said.

Another fan agreed, calling the college football landscape “tough” and saying Kelly remains the best fit for the program “right now.”

“I think another year is warranted at this point. We’ll see how it goes. It’s a tough coaching landscape right now, and I think he’s the best fit for us right now, but we’ll see how it goes,” Matthew Herrera, another LSU fan, said.

Others pointed to the massive buyout as a key factor in any decision about the coach’s future.

“I think this is going to be a financial decision. At the end of the day, $50 million is a lot of money to have to put up, and I don’t know who’s going to be writing that check,” said Kent DeJean, an LSU fan.

Still, some in the audience said they believe Kelly can turn things around.

“He’s getting paid a lot of money, and there are expectations that come with that salary. I still have faith he can turn it around, but he has to do it this weekend,” Lauret said.

LSU’s next game is Saturday as the Tigers face off against Texas A&M. The game kicks off at 6:30 PM.
