- Christian Watson has been added to the active roster after recovering from a torn ACL.
- Watson is expected to play limited snaps in his first game back against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
- The Packers released tight end Ben Sims to make room for Watson on the 53-man roster.
GREEN BAY − Christian Watson’s first game back from last season’s torn ACL will be in Pittsburgh against his former quarterback, Aaron Rodgers.
The Green Bay Packers added Watson to the active roster Oct. 25 off the physically-unable-to-perform list. He has been practicing for three weeks since missing all of training camp with his knee injury, which came in the 2024 regular-season finale against the Chicago Bears.
Watson’s recovery has been smooth, punctuated by missing only the first six games this season. The Packers have been cautious in deciding when to return Watson, who said he felt ready to play weeks ago.
But the Packers know playing the long game with Watson is important because of his potential impact for a Super Bowl contender late in the season.
The Packers likely will continue that caution with Watson in his first game. It would be surprising if he played much more than a handful of snaps against the Steelers, but it will be his first action in a process the Packers hope will see Watson eventually become the same dynamic playmaker he’s been in the past.
Packers release tight end Ben Sims
The Packers released tight end Ben Sims to clear a roster spot for Watson, meaning they’ll keep two kickers on their 53-man roster in Brandon McManus and Lucas Havrisik. McManus might kick this week after practicing, but they’ll have Havrisik as backup.
Green Bay also elevated defensive end Arron Mosby from the practice squad to the active roster for game day for the second straight week.
