Everton vs Tottenham preview

After eight games of the Premier League season, only one team remain unbeaten away from home and Tottenham are fancied to maintain that record when they visit Everton this afternoon.

Spurs were a touch lucky to secure a goalless draw at Monaco in the Champions League on Wednesday but that makes it six games without loss on their travels under Thomas Frank.

A 2-1 home defeat to Aston Villa last weekend was a setback but Spurs have still only lost two of their 12 games this season and if they are to succeed in their top-four ambitions, today’s fixture is the kind of game they need to win.

Everton started the season brightly, with three wins from their first four games, but progress has slowed and they have won just one of their last six matches.

That run includes an EFL Cup defeat against Wolves and draws with Aston Villa and West Ham, who were both struggling at the time.

While it is 37 games since they conceded more than two goals in a game, Everton still have not shown enough going forward this season to really make an impact. David Moyes’s side have scored only four goals in their last six outings.

Expect set-pieces to play a big role in this game, particularly Kavin Danso’s long throws. Tottenham have developed them into a dangerous weapon under Thomas Frank.

The former Brentford manager has received some criticism in recent weeks but he has largely achieved his goal of making this Spurs side hard to beat, something they definitely were not last season.

While summer signings Xavi Simons and Randal Kolo Muani are yet to make an impact, the visitors do have more game-changers in their squad than Everton and that could give them the edge in what looks likely to be a tight game.

A moment of magic could decide this one and Tottenham look likelier to produce that than the Toffees. Take the stalemate out of the equation and side with Spurs in the draw-no-bet market.

Kudus key to visitors’ success

Mohammed Kudus has been the real success story of Tottenham’s summer transfer business. He now has four assists and a goal in eight league games and almost everything Tottenham do well runs through him. He is fancied to score or assist again.

Spurs could edge tight game

Considering Everton’s solid home record and Tottenham’s success on the road, this should be a close affair which the visitors could edge. Two of Spurs’ last three games have finished 2-1.
