Mitch Love was once a hot Head Coach candidate around the NHL, but now, he’s been suspended for the entire year after allegations come to light.
This off-season was relatively quiet around the National Hockey League, but there was one intriguing story that fans hadn’t gotten answers too thus far, and now, we do.
Perhaps the most under the radar story was the situation involving Mitch Love, an assistant with the Washington Capitals and former Calgary Wranglers Head Coach, who was once seen as a potential Head Coach of the future.
Despite carrying intrigue from several teams as a Head Coaching candidate, Love was shockingly placed on leave by the team pending the results of an investigation from the league.
Mitch Love Suspended For The Season
Now, we’ve got the official results of the NHL’s inquiry, with NHL Insider Frank Seravalli revealing the reason behind the investigation into Love, while also announcing a season long suspension for the talented assistant.
It’s unclear if we’ll ever get any official details on the allegations towards Love, but given the nature of them and the lengthy investigation conducted by the NHL, it’s safe to say that they’ve made the right decision on Love here.
Now, we wait to see what the future of the 41-year old former AHL Head Coach holds, as the Capitals have not made any announcements about Love’s future beyond this suspension.
Ultimately, this all depends on what the NHL found in their investigation, but given that it was enough to justify a season long suspension, there’s a chance that he may not be coming back once the 2025/26 campaign is over, but for now, only time will tell.
