I’m kind of surprised the Hornets are underdogs here. It’s probably my bias, but the Wizards roster is just so…bleh. The starting lineup has some name recognition with CJ McCollum and Khris Middleton, but McCollum has been awful through two games and Middleton hasn’t bee good in years. Alex Sarr was the second overall pick last year but he hasn’t proven to be a real difference maker yet. Kyshawn George has been a superstar through two games. I don’t know if that’s for real or just an early season flash in the pan. He’s averaged 27.5 points, 10 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game in the first two games.

I think the most interesting thing to watch for Hornets fans and more specifically members of this blog is the production of the teams’ two first round picks. Tre Johnson was a popular pick among Hornets fans leading up to the 2025 NBA Draft, but the Hornets with Kon Knueppel and Johnson landed with the Wizards. Johnson has scored an efficient 33 points in 52 minutes off the bench across the two games. There’s a decent chance we even get to see the two against each other in one on one situations with the second units on the floor.

It’s a good chance for the Hornets to bounce back, notch their first road win of the season, and separate themselves from the other teams they’ve been sharing the NBA basement with for the last few years.
