Coronation Street legend makes unexpected funeral admission ahead of soap return

Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley made a surprising admission on Monday
A Coronation Street legend has made an unexpected funeral admission ahead of her soap return.
It was announced over the summer that Weatherfield favourite Eva Price, played by Catherine Tyldesley, would be making a huge comeback as the landlady of The Rovers Return.
However, Eva isn’t alone as she’s joined by her new partner Ben Driscoll (Aaron McCusker), and his interfering mother Maggie (Pauline McLynn).
In scenes airing tonight (Monday, October 27), Eva and Ben are revealed to the cobbles’ residents as the new owners of the Rovers, putting Eva back behind the bar of the nation’s favourite pub for the first time since 2018.
Actor Catherine appeared on ITV’s This Morning today, where she spoke to hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary about her anticipated return, reports the Daily Star.

On how her comeback first came about, Catherine revealed: “Well, it was a while ago. Kate [Brooks], our producer, said, ‘Can I jump on a call with you and your agent?’
“And I honestly thought somebody was dying and [they] wanted me to nip back for a funeral. And my agent said, ‘Well, look, let’s see. Keep a poker face, let’s have the conversation’.
“And we got on the call, and [Kate] said, ‘Would you like to be landlady?'”
While discussing future storylines for Eva, Catherine teased an ongoing rivalry between her character and Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon).
Corrie fans will recall that Maria notably had an affair with Eva’s former fiancé, Aidan (Shayne Ward), who tragically took his own life back in 2018.

“Is there still going to be a bit of drama with Maria?” Alison asked, with Catherine quickly replying: “Oh yes!”
She added: “Eva loves a grudge. So, they’re writing really well for Eva and Maria. It’s kind of like the new Eileen and Gail scenario. But that’s great fun to play.
“It’s great fun to play, and Samia and I are great friends in real life. We have such a giggle playing our love storylines, it’s great fun.”
Speaking to press at a recent event, Catherine also teased makeover details at the pub, saying: “Eva is already massively putting her own stamp on the Rovers. There’s bits of pink everywhere, there’s flowers, there’s bows.
“She’s really had quite a girly impact on the place but in a fun way, and I feel like it needed a little bit of a facelift!”
Coronation Street airs at 8pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday on ITV1 and is available to stream from 7am on ITVX
