Man dies following ‘serious collision’ on Dublin’s Dame Street

A man has died following a ‘serious collision’ on Dame Street in Dublin this morning.

Gardaí are at the scene of the incident and the street is currently closed between Parliament Street and South Great George’s Street.

The accident happened at around 1.45am.

A garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí are currently at the scene of a serious road traffic collision that occurred on Dame Street, Dublin 2, today.

“The incident occurred at approximately 1.45am. A section of Dame Street remains closed at this time and there are local diversions in place.

“”Road users are asked to take alternative routes if possible.”

A body was removed from the scene this morning following the tragic incident.

It is the second fatality on the country’s roads in the last 24 hours following a fatal incident in Donegal.

A woman, in her 80s, died following a single-vehicle collision on the R262 at Tullynaglaggin at approximately 3.50pm on Wednesday.

A man, also aged in his 80s, was taken to Letterkenny University Hospital to be treated for injuries believed to be non-life threatening.

A Garda spokesperson said the scene will be examined by Forensic Collision Investigators.

“Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them,” they said.

“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area between 3.30pm and 4.00pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardai.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Ballyshannon Garda Station on 071 985 8530, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
