Man (30s) dies in ‘serious collision’ with truck on Dublin’s Dame Street

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses after the fatal accident at around 1.45am.

Gardaí and emergency services responded following report of the collision, involving a pedestrian and a truck.

A Garda spokesperson said: “A male pedestrian (30s) was pronounced deceased at the scene. His body has been removed to Dublin City Mortuary where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

“There were no other injuries reported. The Coroner has been notified.

“Garda Forensic Collision Investigators have completed an examination of the scene and the road has been reopened.

“Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have taken images or recorded footage of the incident to not share it on social media platforms or messaging apps, but instead to provide it to investigating gardaí.

“Any road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, who were in the area between 1.30am and 2am are asked to make this this footage available to gardaí.”

It is the second fatality on the country’s roads in the last 24 hours following a fatal incident in Donegal.

A woman, in her 80s, died following a single-vehicle collision on the R262 at Tullynaglaggin at approximately 3.50pm on Wednesday.

A man, also aged in his 80s, was taken to Letterkenny University Hospital to be treated for injuries believed to be non-life threatening.

A Garda spokesperson said the scene will be examined by Forensic Collision Investigators.

“Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them,” they said.

“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area between 3.30pm and 4.00pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardai.
