Indianapolis Colts owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon gets props from Cam Newton: ‘She is making her presence felt’

Women have been part of NFL team ownership for decades, but the Indianapolis Colts’ success this season prompts a one-time MVP to consider greater involvement for women in upper management.

The Colts’ Carlie Irsay-Gordon, who has been on the sideline — wearing a headset and taking notes — for years, has caught the eye of Cam Newton.

“She is making her presence felt and it’s leading to wins,” he said over the weekend on his “4th and 1” podcast.

“She’s doing something right and it’s extremely commendable. It raises eyebrows and the thought process in here. Do we need more women in sports? Because what they provide is something that most men would overlook,” Newton said, noting the attention Irsay-Gordon pays to details.

The Colts (7-1) have the NFL’s best record through Week 8.

Five women are listed as primary owners of NFL teams; a woman and man share the title for four teams; the Buccaneers have “family” ownership, and the Packers sell ownership shares to individuals.
