Why there can be no favours for Welbeck in training

Fabian Hurzeler has explained why there is no easing off for Danny Welbeck in training and matches.
The 34-year-old striker is showing no signs of easing off the workload and has reaped the reward with four goals recently.

He hopes to maintain his good form as Albion visit his old club Manchester United today.
Welbeck laughed off a suggestion on BBC Radio 5 Live this week that he might be allowed to ease off a little in training at times, given his age.
He said there was no chance of that with Hurzeler in charge.
Now the head coach himself has explained why.
Hurzeler said: “That’s the thing I demand from him as well and I expect from him, that he shows this effort against the ball.

“I think what is so crucial for us as a team and as a club is we have a lot of young players, a lot of young offensive players.
“Now we just integrated Stefanos Tzimas, we have integrated (Charalampos) Kostoulas, so very young players, Tommy Watson and if they see that a Danny Welbeck works that intense against the ball, if they see an older player, experienced player who already achieved a lot of things in his life and his career, works that hard for the team, it’s a rule and it’s a law for everyone that they have to do it as well.

“Therefore I always emphasise you need these role models on and beside the pitch, you need these experienced players like James Milner, like Lewis Dunk.

“Also Jason Steele. He’s not playing but he’s a role model regarding his values. Adam Webster when he wasn’t injured, he was a role model for his values.
“James Milner has great values and they all live it on the pitch and that’s so important for the development from the young players.
“That they see all the old players doing it and I’m very privileged and I’m very pleased that I have a lot of experience and old players who have this work ethic, who have the right values, who have the right standards.

“Therefore it’s so important for development, especially for Brighton with this amount of young players we have in our squad to have these experienced leaders who show great effort and great values you want to see.”
