Rain, wind and coastal flood concerns as storm blows into NYC area

Rain and wind are causing damage after the storm rolled into the New York City area, bringing with it gusty winds and a chance of coastal flooding.
A flash flood warning is in effect for New York City and Westchester County until 5:30 p.m.
The Jersey Shore is under a wind advisory until 5 p.m. Thursday for gusts up to 50 mph. Much of the coastline is also under a coastal flood advisory for up to 2 feet of inundation.
There were already reports of trees down in parts of New Jersey and beyond. NJ Transit said service along the Long Branch line was briefly suspended due to a downed tree, but has since resumed with delays.
Storm impacts were also snarling service at area airports.

It’s all part of our First Alert Weather Day as we deal with the messy conditions, especially during the evening commute.
Reports of damages started coming in before noon, including a large tree that fell onto Rockland Avenue in the Parkhill section of Yonkers and another that came down at East 230th Street and White Plains Road in the Wakefield section of the Bronx.
Once this system passes, all eyes will be on the forecast heading into Halloween on Friday and the New York City Marathon on Sunday.
Timing of today’s storm
CBS News New York
Throughout the day, a windswept rain will make for headaches across the Tri-State Area.
While it won’t be raining at all times, when it does, it could be heavy. Some thunderstorms may even be embedded within the heavier bands of rain.
CBS News New York
Winds won’t be taking much of a break though, as they’ll be gusting from 30-50 mph. Those strong winds piling up against the shoreline may lead to some coastal flooding, as well, especially along the Jersey Shore.
When all is said and done, rainfall amounts will range from 1-2 inches, with up to 3″ locally.
Updated Halloween forecast
CBS News New York
Although today is looking quite ghastly, Halloween will be mostly dry. A few leftover showers are possible early in the day, but they should be long gone once the trick or treaters hit the pavement.
A gusty wind will linger through the day, with peak winds ranging from 35-45 mph. It also looks to be much cooler than last year, when the high was 81 degrees, which tied the daily record for warmest Halloween ever. Highs this Halloween will struggle get higher than the mid 50s, making it the coolest Halloween in recent years.
