Campaign bus for Virginia GOP gubernatorial candidate Earl-Sears’ catches fire

While on the way to a rally, the campaign bus for Virginia Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears caught fire.

The GOP candidate for governor posted online about the fire.

“While en route to an event, our campaign bus caught fire. Everyone is safe. Thank you to the first responders who got to the scene quickly — we are so grateful for you,” she said in the post.

There is no word yet on what caused the bus to catch fire.

Earl-Sears’ opponent in the governor’s race, Democrat Abigail Spanberger, also posted about the fire.

“I’m relieved to hear Winsome Earle-Sears and her team are safe after her campaign bus caught on fire this afternoon. I’m grateful to our first responders for their quick action — and I’m thinking of the Lt. Governor and her team after this scary incident,” Spanberger said in a statement.

This fire comes just five days before election day. Polls show a tight race between Earl-Sears and Spanberger.
